A list of things that I would like to make utilizing graphic design: Advertisements for a children's channel Motion graphics video Informational poster Illustrations for a cookbook A movie poster Gathered Images "Permutations" (1968) This is a motion graphics video by John Whitney which is around 7 minutes and 25 seconds long. This is one of the graphics in the video but it's very hypnotizing. "True Advertisement" (1968) This is a very colorful advertisement for Lorillard Tobacco Company's True menthol cigarettes. I was really attracted to the bold pattern in the background and on the model's dresses. I would have never guessed this was for a cigarette advertisement but instead maybe a fashion catalouge. Semiotics- The study of signs, symbols, and how they are communicated. Denotation- Image or text that is straightforward and gives its exact meaning. Connotation- This is what is not directly stated in a message and can be found through image or text, the context behind an image or text, the form, or even the style. It's something Icon- Symbols or images that take on a very popular role and become synonymous with an organization, country, show, style, etc. Tone- The mood brought forth by a particular style of a design. Most people associate more realistic styles with more serious topics and more cartoony styles with a more childlike tone. However, these roles can be reversed if an author/artist chooses to do so. Metaphor- Imagery in comics that might convey a deeper message in the story.
